What is sitemap?

Sitemap can be an important source of information for your site. But what is a Site Map? This is a simple question frequently asked on internet.
Sitemap is the map of your whole site. It tells visitors a list of accessible pages of a web site and visitors consult Site Maps to help navigate from one page to another it also act as a navigation aid by providing an overview of a site's content at a single glance. Search Engines uses them to pinpoint the pages, structure and links of the site. Sitemaps can improve SEO  (search engine optimization) of a site by making sure that all the pages can be found. This is especially important if a site uses a dynamic access to content such as Adobe Flash or JavaScript menus that do not include HTML links.

There are two types of site maps one is the XML and second one is HTML. XML sitemap is for search engines and user doesn't need to see.
HTML Sitemap is design for users to help them find content in your site they love.

I already mention above that there are two types of sitemaps.  Can be either a document in XML form used as a planning tool for Web design, or a HTML Web page that lists the pages on a Web site. In my opinion both are searchable but XML sitemap is more beneficial

Below is an example of a validated XML sitemap of three page.

Example of a validated XML sitemap

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
  <url>
    <loc>http://www.tipsmeloud.blogspot.com/?id=who</loc>
    <lastmod>2014-07-27</lastmod>
    <changefreq>monthly</changefreq>
    <priority>0.8</priority>
  </url>
  <url>
    <loc>http://www. tipsmeloud.blogspot.com/?id=what</loc>
    <lastmod>2014-07-27</lastmod>
    <changefreq>monthly</changefreq>
    <priority>0.5</priority>
  </url>
  <url>
    <loc>http://www. tipsmeloud.blogspot.com/?id=how</loc>
    <lastmod>2014-07-27</lastmod>
    <changefreq>monthly</changefreq>
    <priority>0.5</priority>
  </url>
</urlset>

Validated Sitemaps allows a webmaster to inform search engines about URLs and pages on a website that are available for crawling. A Sitemap can be an HTML or XML file that lists the URLs for a site.
XML Sitemap is much more precise than HTML, use an XML syntax validator such as the free one found at: http://validator.w3.org
